Malaysia Airlines flies direct KL–Fukuoka again after 20 years

What happened. Malaysia Airlines resumed direct Kuala Lumpur–Fukuoka flights on 2 September 2026, five times a week. The route had been suspended for 20 years; until now Malaysians going to Kyushu had to change in Tokyo, Osaka or Taipei.

What it means for you. Fukuoka is the gateway to Kyushu, Japan's southern island: closer, cheaper than Tokyo, and less crowded. In 5 days 4 nights you can cover Fukuoka (yatai street food, Canal City), Nagasaki (history, night view) and Beppu or Yufuin (hot springs). In winter Kyushu is 2–3°C warmer than Tokyo.

Things to check. Five flights a week means no flight on two days; make sure your return date has one. I am preparing a Kyushu 5D4N article with real prices.
